IK Eos vs. Malbas
Preview: IK Eos at Malbas, Women’s Professional Basketball
MALMO, Sweden (Interstat) — A clash between teams trending in opposite directions will unfold Wednesday when IK Eos visits Malbas in a Swedish women’s professional basketball matchup.
The host Malbas (6-6 across all competitions) looks to steady itself after a jarring 105-70 road loss to Hogsbo on Dec. 13. That defeat snapped a two-game winning streak and highlighted defensive inconsistencies for a squad hovering at .500.
Malbas will lean heavily on center Julianna Okosun, a dominant force in the paint. Okosun averages 29.3 points and 17.8 rebounds over her last four games, including a 43-point, 13-rebound effort in a narrow loss to Norrkoping on Nov. 30. Her matchup in the post will be pivotal.
The visiting IK Eos (3-8) arrives with a flicker of momentum, having secured an 84-78 home victory over Brahe last Saturday. That win ended a three-game skid and was just their second in the last eight outings.
Eos is powered by forward Azana Baines, who is coming off a career-best performance. Baines logged 33 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in 38 minutes against Brahe, following a 20-point, 15-rebound, five-assist showing in a win over Alvik on Dec. 6. Over her last four games, she averages 21.3 points and 11.5 rebounds.
The teams’ seasons have followed different arcs. Malbas has shown higher offensive peaks, scoring 100 points in a game this season, but has struggled with defensive lapses. IK Eos has battled inconsistency, with their three wins all coming at home; they are 0-6 in away games this season.
This contest marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the clubs, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 24 in IK Eos’s arena. For Malbas, it’s a chance to rebound and solidify a winning record. For Eos, it’s an opportunity to build a rare winning streak and conquer their road woes.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday at a venue in Malmo.
