Preview: Oaklands Looks to Continue Climb, Cardiff Seeks First Win in Women’s Basketball Clash

CARDIFF, United Kingdom (Interstat) — A study in contrasting fortunes will unfold Saturday when the surging Oaklands visit the winless Cardiff in a British women’s professional basketball matchup.

The game, set for March 7, 2026, in Cardiff, pits teams at opposite ends of the standings. Oaklands arrives with an 8-4 record across all competitions, having won three straight, including a 70-66 home victory over Cardiff in their previous meeting on Dec. 13. Cardiff, the home side, is mired in an 0-12 season.

Oaklands is powered by forward Danielle McCray, who is coming off a dominant double-double performance in an 81-72 win over Leicester on Feb. 28. McCray logged 31 minutes, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to go with four assists and a block. She is a consistent force for a balanced attack that also features productive players like Tayjanna McGhee Pleasant and Shanice Beckford Norton.

Cardiff’s hopes rest largely on the scoring prowess of Jordon Lewis. Despite her team’s struggles, Lewis has been a bright spot, erupting for 29 points in 38 minutes in Cardiff’s most recent outing, a 102-80 road loss to Essex on Feb. 28. Her ability to generate offense will be critical against an Oaklands defense that has held opponents to an average of 66.5 points during its three-game win streak.

Cardiff’s season has been defined by lopsided defeats, including a 105-53 loss to Newcastle on Feb. 7 and a 114-42 loss at Caledonia in November. The team has not come within single digits of a victory since the December matchup with Oaklands.

For Oaklands, this game represents a crucial opportunity to solidify its position in the upper tier of the league before a challenging stretch of its schedule next month. For Cardiff, it is another chance to break through and find a winning formula, with the added motivation of avenging the narrow December defeat.

The matchup is organized by Britain’s professional basketball league. Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday in Cardiff.
