Montpellier vs. Villeneuve

VILLENEUVE, France (Interstat) — A pivotal Eurocup Women clash featuring two of France’s top professional teams will take place Wednesday when Villeneuve hosts Montpellier.

Montpellier (15-5) enters with the stronger overall record and momentum, having won four of its last five games. Its most recent victory was a 67-59 win over Flammes on Jan. 4. Villeneuve (13-6), meanwhile, looks to snap a three-game losing skid, including a 70-65 defeat at Toulouse on Jan. 4.

The matchup features a compelling duel at point guard. Montpellier’s Romane Bernies is in stellar form, averaging 10.8 points and 7.4 assists over her last five contests. She nearly posted a triple-double in the October meeting between these teams, a 75-70 home win for Montpellier.

Villeneuve will counter with the frontcourt presence of Alexia Chery, who is coming off a 15-point, 11-rebound performance in the loss to Toulouse. Her ability to control the paint will be critical against a balanced Montpellier attack.

While Montpellier holds the recent head-to-head advantage, Villeneuve has been strong at home this season. The outcome could hinge on whether Villeneuve’s defense can disrupt Bernies’ playmaking and if Chery can establish dominance inside.

Following this contest, Montpellier continues Eurocup play at Mechelen on Jan. 15. Villeneuve will travel to face Gernika Bizkaia in the same competition on Jan. 15.

Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, in Villeneuve.
