Segle XXI vs. Plasencia
Preview: Segle XXI Looks to Continue Dominance Against Plasencia in LF Women’s Basketball
PLASENCIA, Spain (Interstat) — A clash between teams at opposite ends of the standings highlights Spain’s LF women’s professional basketball slate Saturday as the surging Segle XXI visits struggling Plasencia.
The matchup, set for March 28, 2026, in Plasencia, pits a title contender against a team fighting to climb the table. Segle XXI arrives with a formidable 19-4 record across all competitions, having won eight of its last nine games. Plasencia, at 9-14, has lost three of its last five.
Segle XXI, which defeated Plasencia 69-55 in their first meeting on Dec. 13, 2025, is led by center Anna Smykovskaia. She is coming off a dominant performance in a 76-49 win over Edbaser on March 21, recording 14 points and 18 rebounds in just 24 minutes. Over her last four games, Smykovskaia has averaged 8.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, providing a consistent interior force.
The home side will counter with its own standout in the post, Victoria Michel. The Plasencia center has been a bright spot during a difficult season, averaging 10.8 points and 9.0 rebounds over her last four contests. She posted 13 points and nine rebounds in a narrow two-point loss to Gran Canaria II on March 7.
Segle XXI’s recent form has been defined by defensive prowess. In its last two victories, the team held opponents to 49 and 30 points, respectively. Key contributors include Irene Garcia, who had an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double last week, and Daniela Garcia, who dished seven assists in the same game.
Plasencia’s path to an upset likely requires a high-scoring affair, as seen in its 96-91 win over Magectias on Feb. 28. However, consistency has been an issue; the team followed that win with a 17-point loss to GMASB last Saturday.
The game is the penultimate regular-season contest for Plasencia before visiting Almeda on April 11. Segle XXI, firmly in playoff position, will host Ciudad de Mostoles in its next game on April 11.
Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday evening at the Plasencia arena.
