GMASB vs. Alcorcon
Preview: GMASB Faces Daunting Task at League-Leading Alcorcon
ALCORCON, Spain (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Saturday when the struggling GMASB women’s basketball team visits powerhouse Alcorcon in a Spain LF matchup.
The game, scheduled for April 18, 2026, at Alcorcon’s home court, pits a team fighting near the bottom of the standings against one contending at the top. GMASB arrives with a 7-18 record across all competitions, while Alcorcon boasts an impressive 18-6 mark.
The hosts have dominated the recent series, including a 61-46 victory in the teams’ last meeting on Jan. 10. Alcorcon has maintained strong form, coming off an 85-61 road rout of Viladecans on April 11. Gabriela Escorial has been a consistent force in the paint for Alcorcon, grabbing 15 rebounds in just 19 minutes in that victory. Her recent performances highlight a deep and balanced roster that includes scoring threats like Claudia Del Amo and Marta Aranda.
GMASB, however, is riding a rare wave of momentum after a notable 79-69 home win over Olimpico Madrid on April 11. That victory snapped a two-game skid and was fueled by a dominant performance from forward Odeth Betancourt, who posted 11 points and 16 rebounds. Betancourt has been a bright spot in a difficult season, averaging a double-double over her last three games, including a 21-point, 14-rebound effort in a loss to Ciudad de Mostoles on March 28.
For GMASB to have any chance at an upset, they will need another Herculean effort from Betancourt on the boards to counter Escorial and Alcorcon’s interior presence. Support from guards Patricia Benet and Carmen Villanueva, who combined for 25 points and 9 assists in the last win, will also be critical.
Alcorcon’s consistency and defensive prowess, which held GMASB to 46 points in January, make them heavy favorites. But GMASB’s confidence will be higher after its last outing, setting the stage for a clash between a league heavyweight and a team playing with renewed belief.
