Edbaser vs. Plasencia
Struggling Edbaser Seeks Elusive Win Against Plasencia in LF Clash
PLASENCIA, Spain (Interstat) — The Edbaser women’s basketball team, mired in a historically difficult season, will look to snap a 12-game losing streak when they visit Plasencia in a Spain LF matchup on Saturday.
Edbaser (1-24) enters the contest with the league’s worst record, having secured its only victory in late November. Their most recent outing was an 84-68 home loss to CB Isla Bonita on April 11. The team’s fortunes rest heavily on guard Andrea Peregrina, who has been a consistent bright spot. Peregrina is coming off a 20-point performance in that defeat and has averaged 16.7 points over her last three games.
Plasencia (9-16), while also below .500, has shown more competitive form and sits eight places above Edbaser in the standings. They are, however, looking to halt a three-game skid of their own after falling 50-42 at Almeda last Saturday. Forward Maria Romero is a key contributor for the hosts, averaging 10 points and 4.7 rebounds over her last three contests.
The season’s only prior meeting between the clubs was a nail-biter, with Plasencia escaping with a 58-57 road win on Jan. 10. That narrow margin offers a sliver of hope for an Edbaser squad that has lost 10 of its last 12 games by double digits.
For Plasencia, the game represents a critical opportunity to steady their campaign and solidify their position in the mid-table. Guard Cristina Lazaro, who scored 10 points in the loss to Almeda, will be relied upon for additional backcourt production alongside Romero.
Edbaser’s defense, which has allowed an average of 74.2 points per game during its losing streak, will be tested by a Plasencia offense that has shown explosiveness, including a 96-point outing in a win over Magectias in February.
Tip-off is set for Saturday at the arena in Plasencia.
