Siroko Gijon Basketball vs. Pontevedra

Struggling Sides Clash as Pontevedra Hosts Siroko Gijon in LF Women’s Basketball

PONTEVEDRA, Spain (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum late in the season will meet Saturday when Pontevedra hosts Siroko Gijon in a Spain LF women’s professional basketball matchup.

The game, scheduled for April 18, 2026, at Pontevedra’s home venue, pits clubs with nearly identical struggles. The visiting Siroko Gijon holds a 10-15 record across all competitions, while home side Pontevedra sits just below at 8-17.

Their last meeting suggests another tight contest. On Jan. 11, Pontevedra edged Siroko Gijon 91-90 in a high-scoring affair.

Siroko Gijon arrives looking to snap a two-game skid, most recently a 64-60 home loss to Ekke on April 12. A key to their hopes will be forward Sofia Hamidi, who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in that defeat. Hamidi has been a consistent performer, averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds over her last four games, including a 15-point effort in a loss to Mariscos on March 28.

Pontevedra, however, carries a slight wave of confidence after a 60-58 victory over Mataro on April 11. They have won three of their last four outings. Forward Ana Faussurier has been instrumental in that improved form, nearly averaging a double-double in that stretch. In the win over Mataro, she posted 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a block. Over her last three games, she has averaged 9.3 points and 10.0 rebounds.

Beyond the head-to-head thriller in January, recent form favors the hosts. Pontevedra’s three recent wins contrast with Siroko Gijon’s 1-3 record over a similar period. Siroko Gijon’s road victory on April 2, a 75-50 rout of Ausarta, shows their capability, but consistency has been elusive.

The matchup in the paint between Hamidi and Faussurier will be critical, as both forwards are coming off strong rebounding performances. With both teams positioned in the lower half of the standings, Saturday’s contest represents a valuable opportunity to build positive momentum before the season’s conclusion.
