Ekke vs. Pontevedra
Struggling Sides Seek Rare Win as Ekke Visits Pontevedra in LF Women’s Basketball
PONTEVEDRA, Spain (Interstat) — Two teams mired in lengthy losing streaks will battle for a crucial victory when Ekke visits Pontevedra in a Spain LF women’s professional basketball matchup on Saturday.
Both clubs enter with identical 5-17 records across all competitions, though Ekke holds a slight edge with one more win. Each is desperate to halt a skid; Ekke has lost three straight, while Pontevedra has dropped five consecutive games.
The visiting Ekke will look to forward Laura Biczo to provide a spark. She is coming off a 10-point, six-rebound, two-block performance in a 92-62 loss to Mariscos on March 7. In the teams’ previous meeting this season, a 77-68 Ekke victory on Dec. 7, 2025, Biczo’s consistent interior presence was a key factor.
Pontevedra will counter with guard Maria Gonzalez, who has been a workhorse despite the team’s struggles. She logged 38 minutes and contributed nine points, seven rebounds and a block in a 65-49 loss at Mariscos last Saturday. Gonzalez averaged 11.2 points over a recent five-game stretch, demonstrating her scoring capability.
Recent form offers little optimism for either side. Ekke’s last win came on Feb. 7, a 69-51 victory over Maresme. Pontevedra’s most recent triumph was a 65-51 win against TGN Basquet on Feb. 7. Both offenses have sputtered, with each team failing to reach 55 points in multiple recent outings.
The game represents a critical opportunity to gain ground in the standings and build momentum before the season’s final stretch. For the loser, the prospect of sole possession of the league’s basement becomes a stark reality.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at Pontevedra’s home court in Pontevedra, Spain.
