Gran Canaria vs. CAB Estepona Jardin de la Costa del Sol
Preview: Gran Canaria Visits Estepona in Key LF Women’s Matchup
MALAGA, Spain (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to reverse recent slides will meet Wednesday when Gran Canaria visits CAB Estepona Jardin de la Costa del Sol in a Spain LF women’s professional basketball game.
The matchup at Malaga features clubs with nearly identical records. Gran Canaria sits at 3-10 across all competitions, while Estepona is just one game ahead at 4-10. Both are coming off double-digit losses on Jan. 4.
Gran Canaria was routed 82-57 by Zaragoza at home last time out, despite a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds from center Anisha George. Guard Reigan Richardson added 18 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat. George, a key player to watch, has been a consistent force, averaging 13 points and 6.7 rebounds over her last three games, including a 17-point, 7-rebound performance in a win over Gernika Bizkaia on Dec. 20.
Estepona fell 89-70 at Cadi La Seu on Sunday. Point guard Claudia Contell led the way with 17 points and three assists. Contell, Estepona’s primary offensive catalyst, has averaged 13 points and 3.7 assists over her last three contests. Her backcourt partnership with Melisa Gretter, who dished six assists in the last game, will be central to the home team’s plans.
The season series is yet to be determined, making this a critical opportunity for either side to gain a foothold. Gran Canaria’s path to victory likely runs through its interior presence, anchored by George. Estepona will counter with its guard play and look to improve upon a defense that allowed 89 points in its last outing.
Historically, Gran Canaria has shown it can score in bursts, posting 93 points in a win over Baxi Ferrol on Nov. 30, but consistency has been an issue. Estepona’s most impressive win was a 91-71 road victory over Araski on Dec. 6.
Following this contest, Gran Canaria returns home to face Innova-TSN on Jan. 10. Estepona travels to face Zaragoza on Jan. 11.
Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, in Malaga.
