Flammes at Reyer Venezia
VENICE, Italy (Interstat) — Reyer Venezia will open its Euroleague Women campaign Wednesday when it hosts Flammes in a women’s professional basketball game. Flammes is the visiting team and enters with a 0-1 record. Reyer Venezia is 0-0. Both clubs are seeking their first victory of the season, and the matchup is organized by Euroleague Women. The game will mark Reyer Venezia’s first Euroleague Women appearance of the season and Flammes’ second.
Flammes will lean on Coline Franchelin, who has been among the team’s most productive players. In her most recent outing, a 78-70 loss to Lyon, Franchelin recorded 25 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists over 36 minutes. Earlier in the season, she had 15 points, three rebounds and eight assists in a 101-81 win over KP Brno, playing 24 minutes. Against Lyon, Vaciana Gomis added 17 points and four assists, while Julie Pospisilova contributed five points, two rebounds and two assists. Franchelin’s ability to score and set up teammates has been a central part of Flammes’ attack.
Reyer Venezia’s most recent game was a 70-64 loss at Schio. The Venice club will look to use its home floor in its Euroleague Women opener as it begins a busy stretch. After Wednesday, Reyer Venezia is scheduled to host Brescia, visit Broni, visit San Martino, host Masnaga, visit Libertas Livorno, host Derthona, visit San Giovanni, host Battipaglia, visit Schio and host Roseto. That run will test the club’s depth and road form early in the season. Reyer Venezia will aim to protect its home court before the schedule turns more demanding.
Flammes also has a crowded upcoming schedule. Following Wednesday’s game, Flammes will visit Toulouse, host Landes, visit Landerneau, host Montpellier, visit Chartres, host Bourges, visit Angers, visit Villeneuve, host La Tronche Meylan and visit Charnay. The stretch includes a mix of home and away contests across domestic play. Flammes will try to build momentum after a difficult start.
The matchup will be Flammes’ second game of the Euroleague Women season and Reyer Venezia’s first. Flammes will try to bounce back from its season-opening defeat, while Reyer Venezia will aim to start strong at home. Franchelin’s playmaking and scoring will be a focal point for Flammes, especially after her near triple-double in the team’s most recent contest. Her ability to create for teammates could be important against a Reyer Venezia side playing its first game of the campaign. Flammes will need contributions from Gomis and Pospisilova as well.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Flammes 80, Reyer Venezia 69.
