GIANNINA, Greece (Interstat) — Giannina used a dominant fourth quarter to defeat visiting Athinaikos 92-62 in a women’s professional basketball game Saturday. Athinaikos started fast, leading 21-18 after the first quarter. Giannina answered in the second, outscoring Athinaikos 24-19 to take a 42-40 halftime lead. The home team extended its advantage in the third, winning the period 22-11 and carrying a 64-51 lead into the final quarter. Giannina then closed with a 28-11 run in the fourth to secure the victory. Athinaikos scored 21 points in the first, 19 in the second, 11 in the third and 11 in the fourth. Giannina scored 18 in the first, 24 in the second, 22 in the third and 28 in the fourth. Athinaikos fell to 2-1 this season. Giannina also improved to 2-1. Athinaikos had beaten Kavala in its previous game, while Giannina had won at AEO Proteas Voulas.
