ESPOO, Finland (Interstat) — Emili Melnikova scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Espoo Team defeated visiting BC Nokia 97-89 on Saturday in a women’s professional basketball game. Melnikova added five assists and two blocks. Kiia Mantyla and Nea Schreck each scored 19 points for Espoo Team, which improved to 1-1. BC Nokia dropped to 1-2. Elli Salovaara added 17 points and seven rebounds. Cierra Walker led BC Nokia with 25 points, four assists and three rebounds. Lauren Carter scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Lisa Camara added 15 points. Maija Honkonen chipped in 14. Espoo Team shot 34 of 76 from the floor and 21 of 29 from the free-throw line, while BC Nokia shot 32 of 71 and 16 of 26. Espoo Team held edges in assists, 13-8, and blocks, 5-3. BC Nokia committed 20 turnovers and 25 fouls. Espoo Team had 15 offensive rebounds to BC Nokia’s 13. Espoo Team used a 30-point fourth quarter to secure the win after BC Nokia scored 19 in the period.
