ESCH, Luxembourg (Interstat) — Esch defeated visiting Grengewald Hueschtert 76-72 in women’s professional basketball Sunday, using a decisive fourth quarter to hold off a late rally. Grengewald Hueschtert led 32-29 at halftime and carried a 55-51 lead into the fourth quarter, but Esch answered with 25 points in the final period. Tatsiana Likhtarovich paced Esch with 24 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Joy Baum added 21 points, while Jovana Jaksic chipped in eight points, eight rebounds and three assists. Mara Chaumont contributed five points and four rebounds. For Grengewald Hueschtert, Amanda Cahill starred with 28 points, 15 rebounds and two assists. A. Bethel posted 11 points and 10 rebounds, Mae Manti scored 16 points, Tereza Liska added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Dorkas Von Arx finished with seven points, eight rebounds and three assists. Esch shot 28 of 76 from the floor and 17 of 18 from the free-throw line, while Grengewald Hueschtert shot 27 of 68 and 17 of 30. Esch improved to 2-1. Grengewald Hueschtert fell to 0-4.
