Dudelange at Contern

CONTERN, Luxembourg (Interstat) — Dudelange will put its unbeaten start on the line Saturday when it visits Contern in a women’s professional basketball matchup.

Dudelange enters at 2-0, while Contern is 1-1. Contern will have home advantage as it tries to hand Dudelange its first loss of the season.

Dudelange has been powered by a balanced attack. In its most recent outing, a 91-72 home win against Grengewald Hueschtert, Lauren Van Kleunen scored 25 points, Shalonda Winton added 22 points and Catherine Mreches finished with 21. Winton also collected 11 rebounds, six assists and two blocks in 27 minutes. Dudelange’s earlier result was an 84-61 road win at Esch, when Winton had 14 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes.

Winton, a player to watch for Dudelange, has been efficient through two games. She is averaging a double-double and has contributed as a scorer, rebounder and facilitator. Her ability to impact the game on both ends could be central to Dudelange’s chances of staying perfect.

Contern will counter with Marah Dykstra, who has been one of the team’s most productive players. Dykstra scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in 39 minutes in Contern’s most recent game, a 74-64 loss at Musel Pikes. Hannah Stines added 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while Esmeralda Skrijelj had five points, 12 rebounds and three assists. In Contern’s 84-72 win over Les Sangliers Wooltz, Dykstra finished with nine points, nine rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes.

Dykstra’s scoring and rebounding make her a focal point for Contern. She has shown she can carry a heavy workload and produce at a high level, and Contern likely will need another strong performance from her to match Dudelange’s offense.

Dudelange has shown potent scoring depth, with Van Kleunen, Winton and Mreches all capable of big games. Contern has relied on Dykstra and Stines to generate production. The matchup could hinge on whether Contern can slow Dudelange’s multiple scoring options while getting enough support around Dykstra.

Both teams are early in the season, but the game carries early significance in the standings. Dudelange wants to protect its perfect record. Contern seeks to move above .500 and defend its home court. Contern will aim to use its home floor to contain Dudelange’s attack and create a tighter contest.

The game is scheduled for Saturday. It will be a women’s professional basketball contest between a Dudelange side riding momentum and a Contern team looking to build consistency.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Contern 80, Dudelange 76.
