Alcorcon vs. Leon
LEON, Spain (Interstat) — Two teams separated by a single game in the Spain LF standings meet Saturday when Alcorcon (22-7) visits Leon (22-8) at Leon in a pivotal women’s professional basketball clash.
Alcorcon enters the 3 p.m. local tipoff having lost its last outing, a 49-43 defeat at GDKO Bizkaia on May 24. The visitors have won six of their past seven games, with the lone blemish that low-scoring affair. Claudia Del Amo has been the offensive catalyst for Alcorcon. She scored 17 points with four rebounds in the loss to Bizkaia and posted 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 68-47 win over the same opponent on May 16. In her past four games, Del Amo is averaging 17.3 points per contest.
Leon carries momentum after a 66-62 road win at GEiEG on May 23. The home side has won four straight and seven of its last eight. Paula Vaquera leads Leon’s attack. She scored 18 points with two assists in that May 23 victory and has reached double figures in all four of her most recent appearances, averaging 13.3 points over that stretch. Vaquera also posted 14 points and three assists in an 83-67 win over GEiEG on May 16.
Alcorcon boasts balanced production. Forward Dovile Miliauskaite grabbed nine rebounds in the May 24 loss, and Yasmine Sifaoui added seven points off the bench. Leon countered with Katiana Benitez’s eight points and six rebounds in its last win, alongside Angelica Martin’s six points and five rebounds.
The teams will meet again June 6 at Alcorcon. Saturday’s result could tighten or widen the gap between two clubs jostling for playoff positioning in the league standings.
