LEON, Spain (Interstat) — Katiana Benitez posted 17 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks as Leon defeated GEiEG 83-67 on Saturday in a Spain LF2 women’s professional basketball game.

Leon improved to 21-8 across all competitions, while GEiEG fell to 20-8. Benitez, who scored nine points with nine rebounds in her previous outing, was the top performer for the home side.

Paula Vaquera added 14 points and three assists for Leon. Naroa Martinez contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds, Angelica Martin had eight points, seven rebounds and four assists, and Julia Martinez scored 10 points with four rebounds and three assists. Lucia Garcia and Fatoumata Dembele each scored six points.

For GEiEG, Marina Melero led all scorers with 25 points and added three rebounds. Julia Fernandez scored 12 points with four rebounds, and Vanessa Gonzalez had six points, three rebounds and four assists.

The game was played in front of a home crowd in Leon. The two teams will meet again Saturday, May 23, at GEiEG’s home court.
