Alpo vs. Faenza
FAENZA, Italy (Interstat) — Alpo visits Faenza on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in a pivotal Italy A2 women’s professional basketball matchup that could carry postseason implications for both clubs.
Alpo (23-8 overall) enters on a two-game winning streak, most recently defeating Faenza 73-59 on May 10. That victory extended Alpo’s dominance in the season series, having won all three head-to-head meetings: 84-79 at home March 21 and 70-61 on the road Dec. 7. Faenza (20-9) dropped its last contest to Alpo but had won four of five before that, including overtime victories against Sanga Milano (67-65 on Apr. 29) and a 67-53 road win over the same opponent Apr. 25.
Alpo center Serena Soglia has been a consistent force. In the May 10 win over Faenza, she played 30 minutes, scoring 15 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and adding three assists. Over her past six games, Soglia has posted double-doubles in three of them, including 18 points and 14 rebounds in a 58-55 win against Selargius on Apr. 18. She also had 17 points and nine rebounds in a 66-61 loss at Empoli on Apr. 29. Soglia’s ability to control the paint and clean the glass will be crucial against a Faenza frontcourt that has struggled to contain her.
Faenza’s leading scorer, guard Lilli Onnela, is Alpo’s primary concern. Onnela erupted for 24 points, seven rebounds, one assist and two blocks in the May 10 loss, playing 31 minutes. She has been on a tear, scoring at least 22 points in three of her last four outings, including a 25-point, seven-rebound performance in a 67-53 win at Sanga Milano on Apr. 25. Onnela also contributed 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three blocks in a 67-65 overtime victory over Sanga Milano on Apr. 29. Her perimeter shooting and ability to create off the dribble pose a significant challenge for Alpo’s defense.
Alpo’s supporting cast has been reliable: guard Antonia Peresson logged 38 minutes in the May 10 game, posting 15 points, six rebounds and three assists, while forward Martina Rosignoli added 15 points and one rebound in 21 minutes. Faenza got 12 points and five rebounds from forward Sara Ronchi and five points and nine rebounds from Marianna Zanetti in the same contest, but will need more consistent production from its bench to keep pace.
The game tips off at Faenza’s home court. Both teams are looking to solidify their positions in the standings as the regular season winds down. Alpo’s depth and recent head-to-head success give it the edge, but Faenza’s home-court advantage and Onnela’s explosive scoring make this a compelling matchup.
