Masnaga vs. Valdarno
VALDARNO, Italy (Interstat) — Masnaga visits Valdarno on Wednesday in a key women’s professional basketball matchup in Italy’s A2 league, with both teams looking to build momentum heading into the playoffs.
Masnaga (24-5 overall) enters on a five-game winning streak, most recently routing Valdarno 95-72 on May 9. In that contest, forward Marta Moscarella posted 23 points and 17 rebounds, continuing a dominant stretch. Over her last five games, Moscarella has averaged 19.4 points and 15.4 rebounds while shooting efficiently, including a 23-point, 18-rebound effort against Jolly Livorno on April 25.
Valdarno (20-10) rebounded from that loss with a 69-64 overtime win at Matelica on May 2, led by guard Flavia De Cassan’s 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists. De Cassan has been Valdarno’s most consistent playmaker, averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 assists over her last five outings. However, Valdarno has struggled against top competition, splitting its last 10 games and losing two of three meetings with Masnaga this season.
The head-to-head series favors Masnaga, which has won two of three matchups. Valdarno’s lone victory came March 28, a 95-74 home win in which De Cassan contributed 14 points and seven assists. In the most recent meeting, Masnaga’s Patricia Brossmann added 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Johanna Teder dished 14 assists.
Masnaga’s depth has been a factor; the team has won seven of its last eight games, with the only loss a 84-61 setback at Torino Teen on March 21. Valdarno, meanwhile, has alternated wins and losses in its last six games, including a 77-70 loss at Giussano on April 3.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time at Palazzetto dello Sport in Valdarno.
