Rovigo vs. Moncalieri

MONCALIERI, Italy (Interstat) — Two teams with nearly identical records will meet Sunday in Italy A1 women’s professional basketball action when Rovigo visits Moncalieri at PalaMoncalieri. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. local time.

Rovigo (9-15) enters the contest coming off a 71-63 loss to Trieste on April 3. Forward Sara Zanetti posted 15 points and 13 rebounds in that game, while center Nicole Leghissa added nine points and 12 rebounds. Guard Nina Stavrov led all scorers with 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Moncalieri (9-17) is looking to bounce back from a 67-55 defeat at Cagliari on April 18. Center Divine Obaseki, a key player to watch, recorded 11 points and 13 rebounds in that contest. Forward Beatrice Olajide contributed 15 points and eight rebounds, and guard Beatrice Grosso added 11 points.

Obaseki has been a consistent force for Moncalieri. In a 70-61 loss to Cagliari on April 15, she tallied 16 points and 17 rebounds.

Both teams have struggled recently. Rovigo has lost four of its last five games. The lone win in that stretch came against Alpo on Feb. 28. Moncalieri has dropped four of its last six, with its most recent victory coming against Salerno Basket on March 28.

The two sides will meet again on May 7 in Rovigo. Sunday’s game marks the first of a home-and-home series.

Rovigo’s recent results include a 79-55 loss to Ragusa on March 14 and a 71-65 setback against Vicenza on March 28. Moncalieri has seen tight contests: a 75-72 loss to Valdarno on March 22 and a 68-62 win over Torino Teen on April 3.

Rovigo’s offense has averaged 62.4 points per game this season, while Moncalieri has allowed an average of 71.2 points. Moncalieri’s scoring average sits at 67.1 points.

Sunday’s game is critical for playoff positioning. Both teams are battling to avoid the bottom of the standings. A win for either side would provide a much-needed boost.
