Fenerbahce vs. Galatasaray
ISTANBUL (Interstat) — A dominant Fenerbahce squad, boasting a staggering 40-1 record across all competitions, aims to continue its reign over Turkish women’s basketball when it visits rival Galatasaray on Sunday.
The matchup at Galatasaray’s home court in Istanbul is the latest chapter in a one-sided series this season. Fenerbahce has won all four meetings against Galatasaray in 2026, including an 87-76 road victory on April 4. Galatasaray (34-9) has proven to be a persistent challenger, however, losing the two most recent games by a combined five points.
Fenerbahce’s engine is star center Emma Meesseman, who has consistently dismantled Galatasaray’s defense. In the last four head-to-head clashes, she averaged 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists, showcasing her all-around game. She enters Sunday fresh off a 14-point, 6-rebound, 6-assist and 3-block performance in a 76-59 win over Girona on Friday.
Galatasaray’s hopes rest heavily on center Awak Kuier, who posted a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) in a 63-56 win over Zaragoza on Friday. Kuier has been a bright spot against Fenerbahce, averaging 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds in their four meetings this season. Support from Elizabeth Williams and Marine Johannes, who combined for 28 points in the latest win, will be critical.
While Fenerbahce’s season has been nearly flawless, Galatasaray represents one of the few teams to test them recently. The home side will need a standout defensive performance to contain Meesseman and disrupt Fenerbahce’s rhythm to finally break through. Tip-off is set for Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Istanbul.
