Correcaminos vs. Leon
LEON, Mexico (Interstat) — Correcaminos visits Leon on Sunday in a matchup of two struggling teams in the Mexico A women’s professional basketball league.
Correcaminos (4-12) has lost four of its last five games, most recently falling 77-73 at home to Freseras Irapuato on April 24. The team’s top performers in that loss were guards Chelsea Mitchell and Jasmine Thomas, along with forward DreUna Edwards. In the previous two games, Correcaminos dropped consecutive contests to Freseras Irapuato by scores of 84-77 and 77-73.
Leon (2-12) has lost six straight, including a 71-64 home defeat to Potosi on April 24. Key players for Leon in that game included forward Liz Scott, point guard Britney Jones and center Umo Diallo. The last win for Leon came March 27, a 75-69 home victory over El Calor. Since then, the team has been outscored by an average of 18.3 points per game.
The teams met Saturday in Leon, playing to a 0-0 tie. Earlier this season, Correcaminos won both matchups: 70-69 at home on March 13 and 82-60 on March 12.
Correcaminos has shown flashes of competitiveness, pushing Potosi to a 76-66 loss on April 17 before winning the next day 72-68. But defensive lapses have plagued the squad, allowing 84 points or more in seven of its last 10 games.
Leon’s offense has struggled, scoring 65 points or fewer in five of its last six contests. The team’s lone win against a team other than El Calor came March 20, an 83-80 road victory over Freseras Irapuato.
According to Interstat’s ELO system, Correcaminos holds a 62.50% probability to win Sunday’s game.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time at the Leon arena.
