Cagliari vs. Moncalieri
MONCALIERI, Italy (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the Italy A2 women’s basketball league will meet Wednesday when Moncalieri hosts Cagliari.
The matchup features clubs with nearly identical records seeking momentum late in the season. Moncalieri enters at 9-15 overall, while Cagliari sits just one game ahead at 10-14. Both teams are coming off results from earlier in April.
Moncalieri earned a 68-62 home victory over Torino Teen on April 3, led by a standout performance from guard Claudia Colli. The player to watch scored 23 points, dished four assists and added three rebounds in 32 minutes. Colli has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 13 points over her last four games.
Cagliari, however, looks to rebound from a lopsided 64-45 road loss to Basket Alcamo on March 29. Center Meriem Nasraoui was a bright spot in that defeat, recording a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Her interior presence will be key against Moncalieri’s frontcourt, anchored by Divine Obaseki, who grabbed 16 rebounds in the April 3 win.
The season series will be decided quickly, as these teams are scheduled for a home-and-home set. Following Wednesday’s contest in Moncalieri, they will reconvene in Cagliari on Saturday, April 18.
Historically, Cagliari has shown an ability to grind out low-scoring victories, with recent wins of 57-53 over Rovigo and 51-48 over Bolzano in March. Moncalieri’s offense has flashed higher potential, scoring 78 or more points in three of its last six games, but consistency has been an issue.
Tipoff is set for Wednesday evening at the arena in Moncalieri.
