Basket Alcamo vs. Masnaga

Preview: Basket Alcamo at Masnaga

MASNAGA, Italy (Interstat) — A clash between teams at opposite ends of the Italy A2 women’s basketball standings unfolds Wednesday when first-place Masnaga hosts .500 Basket Alcamo.

Masnaga (19-5 across all competitions) enters as the clear favorite, boasting a dominant record and coming off a 90-63 rout of Ants Viterbo on April 3. Their success is fueled by forward Patricia Brossmann, who recorded a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds in that victory. Brossmann has been a consistent force, averaging a double-double over her last four games, including a 25-point, 14-rebound performance in a win over Selargius on March 24.

The visiting Basket Alcamo (12-12) looks to rebound from a 59-68 road loss to Ragusa on April 3. Their hopes rest heavily on guard Justina Kraujunaite, who led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds in that defeat. Kraujunaite has showcased versatile playmaking recently, nearly posting a triple-double with 10 points, six rebounds and nine assists in a win at Trieste on March 21.

The season series is poised to begin, with the teams scheduled for a quick rematch in Alcamo this Sunday, April 19.

Masnaga’s home court has been a fortress for much of the season, with decisive wins including a 77-53 victory over Selargius and a 98-53 demolition of Salerno Basket in February. Their offense, which has topped 90 points three times this season, will test an Alcamo defense that has shown inconsistency.

Alcamo’s path to an upset likely requires containing Brossmann in the paint and leveraging Kraujunaite’s all-around game. The visitors have shown resilience, winning tight games against Umbertide and Bolzano, but have struggled against top-tier competition, falling narrowly to Faenza 63-64 in March.

Wednesday’s matchup presents a stark contrast: Masnaga’s championship-caliber consistency against Alcamo’s quest for a season-defining victory. Tipoff is set for Wednesday evening at Masnaga’s arena.
