NAGOYA, Japan (Interstat) — Maki Takada scored 24 points to guide the visiting Denso Iris to a 69-59 victory over the Toy. Antelopes on Saturday in Game 1 of their women’s professional basketball playoff series.

Takada, a 6-foot center, added eight rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes, overpowering a Toy. Antelopes squad that entered the postseason with a superior record. The Antelopes’ Amaka Okonkwo recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, but the home team’s offense struggled throughout.

Denso Iris, which split two regular-season games against the Antelopes last weekend, seized control early and maintained a steady lead. Mai Kawai distributed nine assists for the winners. The Antelopes’ Shiori Yasuma also had nine assists. The series resumes Sunday at the same venue.
