Arad vs. Sepsi SIC
Preview: Arad Looks to Avenge January Loss at Sepsi SIC
ARAD, Romania (Interstat) — A top-tier Romanian women’s basketball clash is set for Friday as Sepsi SIC hosts Arad in a matchup with potential playoff implications.
The visiting Arad squad (15-5) enters with the superior overall record but seeks to rebound from a recent 79-65 home loss to Rapid on March 30. In that defeat, guard Juliunn Redmond was a bright spot, scoring 20 points with four rebounds and four assists, while TaiSheka Porchia added a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Sepsi SIC (18-11) also looks to bounce back after a 66-60 home loss to Municipal on April 4. Forward Fanni Szabo led her team in that contest with nine points and three rebounds in 19 minutes. Szabo’s production will be a key factor; she scored 19 points in the teams’ last meeting.
That Jan. 4 encounter saw Sepsi SIC secure an 89-77 home victory over Arad. The season series is split, however, as Arad won the earlier matchup 73-59 on Oct. 19, 2025.
Arad’s season has been marked by explosive offense, including a 111-point performance in January, but recent consecutive losses to Rapid suggest a vulnerability Sepsi SIC will aim to exploit. Sepsi SIC has shown its own potent scoring ability, registering several wins by massive margins, but has struggled recently against tougher competition like Municipal.
The battle in the paint will be critical, featuring Arad’s Porchia against Sepsi SIC’s Lauryn Taylor, who nearly had a double-double in the team’s last outing. Guard play, highlighted by Arad’s Redmond, could be the difference in a tight game.
Tip-off is scheduled for Friday, April 17, 2026, in Sfântu Gheorghe.
