Selargius vs. Alpo
Preview: Selargius Faces Alpo in Key Italy A1 Women’s Basketball Clash
VERONA, Italy (Interstat) — A matchup of teams on opposite ends of the Italy A1 women’s professional basketball standings highlights Saturday’s slate as the surging Alpo host the struggling Selargius.
The game tips off at 6 p.m. local time on April 11.
Alpo (18-6 overall) enters as one of the league’s top contenders, despite coming off a 76-66 home loss to Ancona last Friday. That defeat snapped a three-game winning streak. Forward Francesca Parmesani has been a force, averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds in that loss and 15 points and seven rebounds in a narrow 60-59 road win over Umbertide on March 29.
Selargius (13-11) looks to halt a slide, having lost three of its last four games, including a 57-41 defeat to Virtus Cagliari on April 3. In that contest, guard Silvia Ceccarelli led with eight points, four rebounds and three blocks, but the team managed just 41 points. Ceccarelli has been a consistent defensive presence, recording multiple blocks in three of her last four outings, though her scoring has been limited.
The season series will see a quick turnaround, as these teams meet again in Selargius on Wednesday, April 15, adding strategic importance to Saturday’s contest.
Alpo’s balance has been key to their success, with contributors like Martina Rosignoli (13 points vs. Ancona) and Carlotta Rainis providing support around Parmesani. Their offense exploded for a 129-point performance against Treviso on March 14.
Selargius will need more offensive production to keep pace. Beyond Ceccarelli, forward Francesca D’Angelo provided a bright spot with 10 rebounds and two blocks in the loss to Cagliari.
The venue in Verona favors Alpo, who have built a strong record as one of the league’s elite teams. Selargius, hovering near .500, faces a critical test to prove it can compete with the top tier and reverse its recent fortunes. Containing Parmesani inside and finding consistent scoring will be the primary challenges for the visitors.
