Trieste vs. Milano Stars
Preview: Trieste Visits Milano Stars in Italy A1 Women’s Basketball
MILANO, Italy (Interstat) — A quick rematch with playoff implications is set for Wednesday as Trieste visits the Milano Stars in Italy A1 women’s professional basketball.
The teams last met on Sunday, with Trieste (11-14) edging the Milano Stars (7-18) 64-63 on its home floor. Wednesday’s contest at Milano’s arena offers the Stars an immediate chance for revenge and Trieste an opportunity to solidify its standing.
Despite their sub-.500 record, Trieste enters with momentum, having won two of its last three games. Its success is largely fueled by forward Costanza Miccoli, who is coming off a dominant performance against these same Stars. On April 12, Miccoli posted 21 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes for a double-double. She also recorded a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in a win over Rovigo on April 3.
The Milano Stars, mired in a difficult season, have lost three consecutive games and eight of their last ten. Their hopes hinge on center Tereza Vitulova, who led the team with 19 points and six rebounds in the narrow loss to Trieste. Forward Angelica Tibe, who grabbed 14 rebounds in that game, will be crucial on the interior against Miccoli.
The April 12 matchup was a defensive struggle, and another tight game is anticipated. Trieste’s recent form, including wins in three of its last five, gives it a slight edge, but the Stars’ desperation at home and familiarity with the opponent after just facing them creates a volatile scenario.
The season series is currently 1-0 in favor of Trieste. A win for the visitors would create further separation in the mid-table, while a victory for the Stars would provide a vital boost and split the head-to-head series.
Tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday evening in Milano.
