SCHIO, Italy (Interstat) — Schio opened its Italy A1 women’s basketball playoff series with an 85-69 victory over Derthona on Tuesday. The home team controlled the game throughout, leveraging its regular-season dominance against a Derthona squad that kept pace early but faded. Cornelia Fondren led all scorers with 18 points for Derthona, while Pallas Kunaiyi Akpanah added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The win gives Schio a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series, which resumes Saturday at Derthona. Schio, which finished the regular season 31-7, was a heavy favorite entering the postseason matchup.
