Preview: Basket Ostrava at Slovanka in Women’s Basketball

VODOCHODY, Czech Republic (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to escape the cellar of Czech women’s professional basketball will meet Wednesday when Basket Ostrava visits Slovanka.

The matchup at Vodochody features the league’s two most struggling clubs. Basket Ostrava enters with a 3-19 record across all competitions this season, while Slovanka sits at 1-20. Despite their records, their recent head-to-head meetings have been competitive, with Ostrava winning the last two encounters.

Basket Ostrava is coming off a 90-78 home victory over this same Slovanka squad on Sunday. Forward Zuzana Krizova dominated that game, posting 23 points and 13 rebounds in 40 minutes. She has been a consistent force against Slovanka, averaging a double-double in the two meetings this month. Center Emma Merriweather added 18 rebounds in the win.

Slovanka, which has lost 12 consecutive games, will look to end that streak on its home floor. Forward Jitka Pilarova has been a bright spot, averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists over her last three games. In the loss Sunday, guard Karolina Hauserova erupted for a season-high 25 points.

The season series has shifted decisively in Ostrava’s favor. After Slovanka won the first meeting 70-61 last October, Ostrava has claimed the last two by an average margin of 13 points. Wednesday’s game offers Slovanka a final chance to avoid a season sweep in the series and secure just its second win of the campaign.
