OSTRAVA, Czech Republic (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to escape the league’s basement will meet Sunday when Basket Ostrava hosts Slovanka in a women’s professional basketball game.

The matchup at Ostrava features the league’s two lowest-ranked teams. Basket Ostrava holds a 2-19 record across all competitions this season, while visiting Slovanka sits at 1-20.

Basket Ostrava won the most recent meeting between the clubs just a week ago, on March 22, securing an 83-69 road victory. Center Emma Merriweather dominated that contest for the hosts, recording 26 points and 24 rebounds. She is averaging a double-double and will be the primary player to watch for Basket Ostrava.

Slovanka will look to counter with its own interior presence, Anastasiia Kovtun. The center is coming off a 13-rebound, 3-block performance in a loss to Sokol HK on March 25. Her season highlights include a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double earlier this month.

Both teams are mired in prolonged losing streaks. Slovanka has lost 10 consecutive games since its last victory. Basket Ostrava has dropped 15 of its last 16 contests, with its only win in that span coming against Slovanka last Sunday.

The game represents one of the final opportunities for either club to build momentum before the season concludes. They will meet again in a quick rematch in three days on April 1 at Slovanka’s home court.

Sunday’s tipoff is scheduled for March 29 in Ostrava.
