Schio vs. Reyer Venezia
Top EuroLeague Women Contenders Clash in Venice
VENICE, Italy (Interstat) — A pivotal EuroLeague Women matchup with playoff implications awaits Tuesday when Italian rivals Reyer Venezia hosts Famila Schio.
The teams, separated by just 1.5 games in the standings, have split their two most recent meetings this season, setting the stage for a decisive third encounter. Schio (27-6 overall) won 68-66 here on Feb. 18, but Venezia (26-10) responded with a 79-72 victory on Schio’s home floor last Wednesday.
Schio’s Jessica Shepard has been a dominant force, averaging a double-double in the season series. In the Feb. 25 loss, the forward posted 19 points and 14 rebounds. Over her last six games, she is averaging 18.7 points and 9.3 rebounds.
Venezia counters with forward Joyner Holmes, who matched Shepard with 19 points in last week’s win. Holmes has been instrumental in Venezia’s recent form, with the team winning five of its last seven contests.
The season series stands at 2-1 in favor of Schio, which also won the first meeting 80-69 on Feb. 1. Both teams feature balanced attacks, but the battle in the paint between Shepard and Holmes, alongside Venezia’s Lorela Cubaj, will be critical.
A victory would solidify Schio’s position near the top of the EuroLeague table, while Venezia aims to leverage home court to draw even in the head-to-head series and tighten the standings.
Both teams resume domestic league play on Saturday, March 7, with Schio visiting Battipaglia and Venezia traveling to San Martino.
