Preview: Unbeaten Campinas Faces Sampaio in Top Brazilian Women’s Basketball Clash

CAMPINAS, Brazil (Interstat) — A marquee matchup between two of Brazil’s top women’s professional basketball teams will take place Wednesday when the undefeated Campinas visits Sampaio at Sampaio Basquete.

The contest pits the league’s only remaining unbeaten team, Campinas (9-0 across all competitions), against a formidable Sampaio squad (9-1) whose sole loss came early in the season. The game is a pivotal early-season test for both contenders.

Campinas arrives with momentum from a dominant 100-66 victory over Sao Jose on April 1, showcasing a balanced attack. Guard Joice Rodrigues has been instrumental in their perfect start, averaging 7.4 assists over her last five games while contributing consistently across the stat sheet. In the win over Sao Jose, she posted 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in just 22 minutes. Center Brenda Barros added 16 points and four rebounds in that rout.

Sampaio counters with its own dominant force in forward Izabella Sangalli, who is coming off a stretch of three consecutive double-doubles. In her last outing, a 79-47 win over ADRM Maringa on April 4, Sangalli recorded 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Guard Manuela Rios, who had 18 points and six assists in that game, provides a potent backcourt threat.

Sampaio’s defense has been stifling, holding opponents to an average of 55.8 points during its current four-game win streak. However, it will face its toughest challenge yet against a high-powered Campinas offense that has scored 85 or more points in four of its last five games.

The home court may provide an edge for Sampaio, but Campinas has proven capable on the road with wins at SESI and Mesquita this season. The battle between Campinas’s fluid, guard-driven offense led by Rodrigues and Sampaio’s interior strength anchored by Sangalli will likely decide the outcome.

Following this matchup, Campinas will host Santo Andre on April 15, while Sampaio prepares to host SESI on April 12.
