Salvador Basket vs. Sao Jose

SAO JOSE, Brazil (Interstat) — A struggling Salvador Basket squad looks to halt a four-game slide when it visits Sao Jose in a Brazilian women’s professional basketball matchup Friday.

The game tips off at Sao Jose in Sao Jose, Brazil.

Salvador Basket (1-4) enters reeling from a 90-32 defeat to SESI on April 3, its fourth loss in five games this season. The team’s lone victory was a 71-66 win over Mesquita on March 27.

Sao Jose (6-4) seeks to build momentum after a 71-59 victory over Gloria do Goita on April 7 snapped a three-game losing streak. The home team has shown resilience, bouncing back from a 100-66 road loss to Campinas on April 1.

A key matchup will feature Salvador Basket’s Isabela Costa against Sao Jose’s Maite Pereira. Costa, a consistent performer for her team, is coming off a 25-minute, seven-rebound effort in the loss to SESI. Over her last five games, she averaged 7.8 points and 7.2 rebounds.

Pereira fuels Sao Jose’s backcourt, coming off a strong all-around performance with 17 points and six assists in the win over Gloria do Goita. She has averaged 12.4 points over her last five contests.

For Salvador Basket to compete, they must improve an offense that has failed to reach 70 points in four of five games. Sao Jose will rely on its interior presence, led by center Juliana Souza’s 13-point, 11-rebound double-double last outing, and the perimeter play of Rayane De Freitas, who added 14 points and eight rebounds.

The teams last met in the 2024-25 season, with Sao Jose winning both encounters.

Following Friday’s game, Salvador Basket visits Santo Andre on April 12. Sao Jose travels to face Cerrado Brasilia on April 15.
