Townsville vs. Southern Districts

BRISBANE, Australia (Interstat) — The Southern Districts look to extend their strong start to the Australia NBL women’s season when they host the Townsville Flames on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Brisbane.

Southern Districts (7-2) enter the matchup atop the standings, while Townsville (4-3) seeks to build momentum after a bounce-back victory.

The home team features forward Hayley McDowell White, who leads Southern Districts’ attack. In her most recent outing, a 85-65 loss to S.C. Phoenix on May 31, McDowell White logged 27 minutes, scoring 15 points with five rebounds and three assists. She followed a 14-point, four-rebound effort in a 73-65 win at Northside on May 23 and a 17-point, three-rebound performance in a 77-70 victory at North Gold Coast on May 16.

For Townsville, guard Courtney Woods has been the engine of the offense. Woods produced a near triple-double in the Flames’ last game, a 76-61 win over Gold Coast on May 29, recording 24 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists in 33 minutes. In her previous three contests, she posted 28 points and 12 assists in an 83-95 loss to Mackay on May 22, 26 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in an 89-84 win at Northside on May 16, and 23 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in an 82-78 victory at S.C. Phoenix on May 15.

Townsville’s win over Gold Coast snapped a two-game losing streak. In that victory, forward Bree Stephens added six points and seven rebounds, while forward Mia Murray contributed 13 points and five rebounds. The Flames have played seven games this season, with their most lopsided loss a 105-73 defeat at Cairns on Apr. 18.

Southern Districts had a three-game winning streak halted by the loss to S.C. Phoenix. In that game, swingman Odette Isaac scored 14 points and guard Violet Johnson added eight points and three rebounds. The Spartans have won seven of nine, with their only losses coming to Northside (86-82 on May 9) and the Phoenix.

Sunday’s game marks the first meeting of the season between these clubs. Southern Districts will look to maintain its grip on first place behind McDowell White’s consistent production, while Townsville aims to climb the standings behind Woods’ all-around play. Tipoff is scheduled for the afternoon at the Brisbane venue.
