Rockingham vs. Southwest

BUNBURY, Australia (Interstat) — A pair of teams seeking consistency will meet Friday when the Rockingham Flames visit the Southwest Slammers in a National Basketball League women’s matchup.

Both clubs enter the contest at the South West Sports Centre with identical 1-1 records across all competitions this season, each looking to build momentum early in the campaign.

The Flames are coming off a dominant 107-79 home victory over Lakeside on April 4, powered by a spectacular performance from guard Samantha Whitcomb. The veteran star logged 35 minutes, pouring in 42 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and dishing 6 assists. Her backcourt mate, Stefanie Berberabe, added 14 points, while forward Teige Morrell contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds off the bench. Rockingham’s season opened with a 97-77 road loss to Mandurah on March 27.

Southwest earned its first win of the season on April 2, defeating the Perth Redbacks 82-74 at home. Guard Bree Chalk led the way with 29 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 32 minutes. She was supported by Cassidy Lacey Rameka, who posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. The Slammers dropped their season opener 90-79 at Goldfields on March 28, a game where Chalk was held to 12 points.

The matchup will feature a compelling duel between two of the league’s top offensive guards in Whitcomb and Chalk. Whitcomb’s all-around brilliance against Lakeside sets a high bar, while Chalk’s scoring outburst in the Slammers’ win demonstrates her capability to carry the offensive load.

Friday’s game is the first of a two-game road stretch for Rockingham, who next play at Goldfields on April 18. Southwest will hit the road for their next contest, facing Kalamunda on April 17.

Tipoff in Bunbury is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time.
