Sandringham vs. Northern Force
MELBOURNE, Australia (Interstat) — The red-hot Sandringham Sabres face the Northern Force on Friday, June 19, 2026, in a Women’s NBL matchup that pits the league’s best record against a club searching for consistency.
Sandringham (12-2 across all competitions) enters the contest having dropped its most recent game, an 82-63 loss to Keilor on Saturday, June 13, breaking a nine-game winning streak. The defeat was the first blemish since an April 18 win at Keilor. The Sabres still boast a dominant roster led by forward Lucy Cochrane, who has been a consistent force. In the loss to Keilor, Cochrane played 38 minutes, scoring 15 points with five rebounds, one assist and one block. Across her last four games, the forward has averaged 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, including a 17-point, 11-rebound effort in a May 24 win over Kilsyth.
Northern Force (7-9) is navigating its own turbulence. The club fell 77-75 at Ballarat on Sunday, June 14, its third straight defeat after a three-game winning streak. Keely Froling has been the offensive engine, however. The forward played 36 minutes in the recent loss, posting 27 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one block. Over her last five games, Froling has averaged 24.8 points and 11.0 rebounds, including a 34-point, 14-rebound outburst in a May 23 win at Geelong. Her scoring burst will be key against a Sandringham defense that has held opponents under 55 points in half of its wins this season.
Friday’s game at Northern Force’s home venue offers a chance for the Force to right the ship. Sandringham, meanwhile, looks to reassert its dominance before heading to Hobart on Saturday, June 20. The Sabres have shown resilience away from home, going 4-1 on the road this season, including a 70-52 win at Frankston on June 5.
Northern Force returns home after two road losses. The club is 2-4 in its own building this year. But with Froling leading a roster that also features guard Sarah O’Neill, the Force can be dangerous. O’Neill had nine points, four rebounds and seven assists against Ballarat.
For Sandringham, guard Stephanie Reid is a steadying influence. She logged 40 minutes in the loss to Keilor, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds and one assist. Forward Madison Ryan also contributed 15 points and nine boards in that contest.
The series continues with a rematch July 17 at Sandringham. For now, both teams focus on Friday’s bounce-back opportunity. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. AEST.
