Norwood vs. North Adelaide

ADELAIDE, Australia (Interstat) — Norwood (5-5) visits North Adelaide (1-9) in a women’s National Basketball League matchup Saturday at 7 p.m. local time at the Adelaide Arena. The Flames aim to snap a two-game skid, while the Rockets seek to end a nine-game losing streak.

Norwood enters after a narrow 101-96 loss at Woodville on May 23. Ally Becki led the Flames with 25 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in 37 minutes. The guard has been a consistent force, averaging 16 points, five rebounds and five assists in a 75-58 win over Central Districts on May 9, and 7 points, six rebounds and five assists in a 69-59 victory at Sturt on May 2. Becki’s playmaking will be critical against a North Adelaide defense that allowed 105 points in its last outing.

The Rockets dropped their ninth straight May 23, falling 105-42 at West Adelaide. Abbey Jones posted 8 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 30 minutes. The forward notched double-doubles in two of her last three games, including 13 points and nine rebounds against Forestville on May 9, and 12 points and 11 rebounds at Central Districts on May 2. Jones will need help from teammates Jordyn Freer (12 points vs. West Adelaide) and Shannon Webber (6 points) to contain Norwood’s balanced attack.

In the most recent head-to-head on April 11, North Adelaide routed the Flames 95-67 at home. Norwood shot just 38 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 18 times. The Rockets, meanwhile, connected on 52 percent of their attempts and held a 46-34 rebounding edge.

Norwood’s Cali Clark (18 points, 14 rebounds, six assists vs. Woodville) and Maddy Hinton (23 points) provide additional scoring depth. The Flames have alternated wins and losses over their last five games, while North Adelaide has not won since a season-opening victory over Eastern on March 28.

Saturday’s contest marks the second of three meetings this season. The teams meet again in late June. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
