Manly Warringah vs. Maitland

MAITLAND, Australia (Interstat) — The Manly Warringah women’s basketball team, boasting the best record in the Australia NBL, visits Maitland on Sunday in a matchup that pits the league’s top offense against a home side desperate to climb above .500.

Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. local time at Maitland Arena.

Manly Warringah (10-2 across all competitions) enters riding a 2-game winning streak, most recently routing the Sydney Comets 80-51 on May 16. The Sea Eagles have won six of their past seven, with their only loss in that span coming May 9 at Bankstown.

Forward Alex Delaney has been the engine of that success. The 6-foot-1 veteran has recorded three double-doubles in her past four outings, averaging 19 points and 10.3 rebounds over that stretch. She posted 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in 31 minutes against the Comets.

Maitland (4-6) snapped a 2-game losing streak Saturday with an 82-76 win over Hills. The Mustangs are 3-4 at home this season.

Guard Jess Finney led Maitland in that victory with 29 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a block in 35 minutes. She has scored at least 22 points in two of her past three games and is averaging 16.8 points per game over her last five appearances.

The Mustangs have struggled defensively, allowing 80 or more points in four of their last six games. Manly Warringah averages a league-leading 89.5 points per game.

Sunday’s game opens a key stretch for both teams. Manly Warringah faces Hills at home next Saturday, while Maitland travels to Northern Suburbs.
