Kilsyth vs. Sandringham
CHELTENHAM, Australia (Interstat) — The first-place Sandringham Sabres host the last-place Kilsyth Cobras in a women’s NBL1 South matchup Sunday at Cheltenham, with tipoff set for 2 p.m. local time.
Sandringham (10-1) has lost only once this season and enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently beating Nunawading 85-56 on Saturday. Madison Ryan led that win with 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 33 minutes. The 6-foot-1 forward has scored at least 15 points in four of her past five games, including a 19-point effort May 16 against Ringwood.
Kilsyth (4-7) has dropped seven straight, including a 78-68 loss to Melbourne on Saturday. Nikita Young posted 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in that game, her fifth double-double of the season. The 5-10 guard is averaging 13.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists over her last six outings, all losses.
The Cobras have struggled defensively, allowing 90.6 points per game during their losing streak. Sandringham, by contrast, ranks among the league leaders in scoring, averaging 87.7 points over its past five games.
Sandringham’s depth also stands out. Stephanie Reid added 18 points and eight assists Saturday, and Lucy Cochrane grabbed 10 rebounds with four blocks.
Kilsyth will need a complete turnaround to challenge the Sabres. Lily Exton contributed 10 rebounds Saturday, and Emme Shearer scored 18 points, but the Cobras have not posted consecutive wins since early April.
Sunday’s game is the first of two meetings this season. Sandringham won the lone matchup last year, 88-74.
