Keilor vs. Sandringham

CHELTENHAM, Australia (Interstat) — Sandringham hosts Keilor on Saturday in a marquee NBL1 women’s basketball matchup, with the home side riding a near-flawless season and the visitors looking to avenge an earlier loss this season.

Sandringham enters the contest with a 12-1 record across all competitions, its lone blemish a 66-84 defeat at Diamond Valley in April. The Sabres have won nine consecutive games since then, including a 70-52 victory at Frankston on June 5. Keilor, meanwhile, sits at 9-5, coming off an 81-73 win at home against Ballarat on the same date.

The teams met April 18 at Keilor, where Sandringham earned a 65-52 victory. The Sabres have held Keilor to 52 points in each of their last two head-to-head meetings.

For Keilor, guard Maddison Rocci has been the catalyst. Over her past four games, Rocci has averaged 28.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 9.0 assists. She posted a triple-double against Kilsyth on May 16 with 32 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists, and followed that with 34 points and five boards at Melbourne on May 30. In the win over Ballarat, Rocci logged 40 minutes with 27 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists. Keilor also got 27 points from forward Isabelle Bourne and 10 points from center Lara McSpadden in that game.

Sandringham counters with forward Madison Ryan, who has been a steady two-way force. Ryan had 19 points and 12 rebounds in the win at Frankston. She also posted 27 points and seven boards against Nunawading on May 23. In Sandringham’s 79-73 win over Kilsyth, Ryan played 18 minutes off the bench. The Sabres also rely on guard Stephanie Reid, who had 19 points and five assists against Frankston.

Saturday’s game tips off at Cheltenham in Cheltenham, Australia. The Sabres will look to extend their winning streak, while Keilor aims to snap an eight-game head-to-head slide.
