Northside vs. Ipswich
BOOVAL, Australia (Interstat) — The Northside Wizards visit the Ipswich Force on Sunday in an Australia NBL women’s professional basketball game at Booval.
Northside (5-4) enters the contest on the heels of a dramatic 80-79 victory over S.C. Phoenix on Saturday, June 6. The Wizards have won three of their past four games. Ipswich (2-7) is coming off a 79-74 loss to Rockhampton on Sunday, June 7, and has dropped five consecutive games.
Forwards Grace Ellis and Natasha Elliott will be central figures for their respective teams.
Ellis, a forward for Northside, has been a dominant force in recent outings. In the win over S.C. Phoenix, she logged 37 minutes, scoring 25 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing three assists. Over her past six games, Ellis has posted three double-doubles, including a 24-point, 15-rebound performance in a loss to Townsville on May 16.
Elliott, a forward for Ipswich, has been a bright spot during the team’s losing streak. She recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes against Rockhampton. In the previous game, a 100-83 loss at North Gold Coast on June 6, Elliott had 16 points and 10 rebounds. She has produced double-doubles in two of her past three games.
Sunday’s matchup features contrasting trajectories. Northside has shown the ability to win close games, with three of its five victories decided by eight points or fewer. The Wizards’ offense has been bolstered by consistent production from Ellis, along with contributions from Nadeen Payne and Courtney Virgo. Payne scored 18 points and added nine rebounds in the most recent win.
Ipswich has struggled to close out games, losing four of its past five by margins of 10 points or fewer. Elliott has been the team’s most reliable scorer and rebounder, but the Force have lacked secondary scoring depth. In the loss to Rockhampton, Hannah Young contributed 13 points and six rebounds, and Georgia Ralph added 17 points and four assists.
The game will tip off at Booval, with the Force seeking to snap their skid in front of a home crowd. Northside will aim to extend its momentum and climb above .500 on the road.
