Hobart vs. Ringwood
HEATHMONT, Australia (Interstat) — The Hobart women’s basketball team, riding a narrow road win, visits the struggling Ringwood squad Sunday at Heathmont in a matchup of Australia NBL clubs with contrasting fortunes.
Hobart (6-9) comes in after a 73-70 victory Saturday at Frankston, snapping a two-game skid. Guard Tishara Morehouse led the way with 25 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds in 34 minutes. The 5-foot-6 playmaker has been a consistent force, averaging 17.3 points over her last four games while logging heavy minutes. She posted 23 points and 4 assists in a 98-94 win at Ballarat on May 24, and dropped 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in a 64-74 loss at Northern Force on May 30.
Hobart’s other top performers in the Frankston win included forward Tyia Singleton (14 points, 6 rebounds) and guard Sharna Thompson (10 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists). The team has shown offensive firepower — scoring 98 and 100 points in two of its past five games — but has also been prone to defensive lapses, allowing 102 points in a loss at Eltham on May 23.
Ringwood (1-12) has lost 11 straight since its lone win, an 87-69 home victory over Northern Force on April 11. The team’s most recent outing was a 76-42 defeat at Mount Gambier on May 29, where forward Harsimran Kaur posted 7 points and 13 rebounds, guard Jo Raflo added 12 points and 4 assists, and Chelby Koker chipped in 8 points and 3 rebounds. Ringwood has been outscored by an average of 26 points per game during its losing streak, and has not scored more than 87 points in any contest this season.
Sunday’s game at Heathmont — a venue in the Melbourne suburb of the same name — presents an opportunity for Ringwood to snap its skid against a Hobart side that is 3-4 on the road. Hobart has won two of its last three away games, but has also lost by 45 points at Keilor on May 10.
Hobart’s upcoming schedule includes home games against Sandringham on June 20 and Eltham on June 26. Ringwood travels to Nunawading on June 20 and Keilor on June 27.
Tipoff is set for Sunday at Heathmont.
