Sandringham vs. Frankston

SEAFORD, Australia (Interstat) — Sandringham, riding a 10-game winning streak and boasting the NBL’s best record at 11-1, faces Frankston (5-8) on Friday night at Seaford in a women’s professional basketball matchup.

The visiting Sabres have dominated across all competitions behind the interior presence of forward Lucy Cochrane, who has recorded double-doubles in three of her last four games. Cochrane played all 40 minutes in Sandringham’s 79-73 win over Kilsyth on May 24, finishing with 17 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. She also logged 34 minutes in a 85-63 victory at Casey on May 9, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Sandringham’s lone loss came April 10 at Diamond Valley, 84-66. Since then, the Sabres have won seven straight, with their only other setback a season-opening defeat to the same Diamond Valley side. Their May 24 victory over Kilsyth also featured 16 points from Lili Long and 11 points and six assists from Josie Agnew.

Frankston arrives having lost five consecutive games, most recently a 72-68 home defeat to Northern Force on May 24. Guard Sianni Martin has been the Blues’ most consistent scorer, pouring in 23 points on 28 minutes in that loss. In her last five outings, Martin has reached double figures four times, including 17 points at Melbourne on May 10 and 14 points against Keilor on May 9.

The Blues’ lone bright spot this season came May 2, an 82-68 home win over Nunawading. Forward Louise Brown contributed nine points, eight rebounds and two assists in the loss to Northern Force, while Maria Barneda added nine points and 11 rebounds.

Frankston’s struggles have been defensive: the Blues have allowed 78 or more points in six of their last seven games, including 84 to Keilor and 86 to Bendigo. Sandringham, by contrast, has scored 79 or more points in nine of its 12 games and has posted 100-plus points twice.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time. Sandringham’s next game is June 13 at home against Keilor. Frankston travels to face Hobart on June 13.
