Hobart vs. Eltham

ELTHAM, Australia (Interstat) — The Eltham Wildcats, owners of the NBL1 South’s best record, host the Hobart Chargers on Saturday in a women’s professional basketball matchup that pits the league’s hottest scorer against one of its most dominant rebounders.

Eltham (9-2) enters the game riding a five-game winning streak after a 97-90 victory over Mount Gambier on Sunday. Guards Lil Dart and Sarah Elsworthy have powered the Wildcats’ offense. Dart scored 31 points with eight assists and five rebounds in the win, continuing a torrid stretch in which she has averaged 28.3 points over her last three games. Elsworthy added 10 points and nine assists.

Hobart (4-7) has struggled for consistency, dropping a 81-70 decision to Diamond Valley on Saturday for its fourth loss in five games. The Chargers’ lone win in that span came on May 8 at Mount Gambier.

Forward Tyia Singleton has been a bright spot for Hobart. The 6-foot-2 post player recorded 19 points and 17 rebounds in the loss to Diamond Valley. It was her second double-double in three games after posting 16 points and 16 rebounds at Mount Gambier on May 8. Singleton is averaging 15.3 points and 8.6 rebounds over her last four outings.

The matchup features contrasting styles. Eltham averages 87.1 points per game and relies on Dart’s perimeter shooting and playmaking. Hobart has allowed 89.7 points per game in its seven losses and will need Singleton to control the paint against Eltham’s balanced attack.

The Wildcats are 5-1 at home this season. The Chargers are 1-5 on the road. Saturday’s game is the first of two meetings between the teams; Eltham travels to Hobart on June 26.

Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Eltham Arena.
