Eltham vs. Nunawading

EAST BURWOOD, Australia (Interstat) — The Eltham women’s basketball team, riding a wave of momentum after a narrow victory Saturday, looks to extend its strong start to the season when it visits Nunawading on Sunday at East Burwood.

Eltham (7-2) enters the matchup following an 81-76 win over Waverley on May 9, a game in which guard Lil Dart erupted for 30 points, three rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes. The victory was Eltham’s sixth in its last seven games, with the lone blemish a 96-77 loss at Casey on May 2. Eltham’s offense has been prolific, averaging more than 80 points per game, and the team has posted convincing wins over Geelong (87-47), Ballarat (86-74) and Dandenong (94-63) during that stretch.

Dart has been a central figure in Eltham’s success. Over her last six games, she has scored at least 14 points each time, including a 22-point outing in just 17 minutes against Geelong on April 25. She also dished out nine assists in a 78-70 win at Dandenong on April 12. She is joined by center Rebecca Pizzey, who grabbed 13 rebounds Saturday, and guard Sara Rose Smith, who added 15 rebounds, giving Eltham a formidable presence on the glass.

Nunawading (4-5) is looking to snap a four-game losing streak after a 98-76 home loss to Diamond Valley on May 3. The team has struggled defensively, allowing at least 82 points in each of its last four defeats, including a 113-97 loss at Bendigo Braves on April 26.

Forward Kylee Blacksten has been Nunawading’s most consistent performer. She recorded 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the loss to Diamond Valley, and she scored 27 points in a 78-55 loss at Knox on April 18. Over her last five games, Blacksten has averaged 17 points and 5.4 rebounds, though her team has dropped all five contests. Guards Rachel Antoniadou (20 points, six assists against Diamond Valley) and Riley Lupfer (16 points) provide additional scoring options.

Tipoff is Sunday.
