Lakeside vs. Cockburn
HAMILTON HILL, Australia (Interstat) — The Cockburn Cougars, riding high with a 13-3 record, host the struggling Lakeside Lightning (6-8) on Friday in a women’s basketball matchup in the NBL1 West conference.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hamilton Hill.
The Cougars have won three of their last four games, most recently a 75-69 home victory over Rockingham on June 12. Forward Danielle Raber has been a consistent force for Cockburn, averaging 16 points and 12.7 rebounds over her last three contests. In the win over Rockingham, Raber logged 34 minutes, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds with two assists. She also posted an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double in a road win at Goldfields on June 6.
Lakeside arrives having lost four of its last five games, including a 68-84 home defeat to Perth Redbacks on June 13. Forward Samantha Roscoe has been a bright spot for the Lightning. In that loss, Roscoe played 36 minutes and recorded 19 points, nine rebounds and one assist. She also tallied 13 points and nine rebounds in a road win at Willetton on June 12, and has shown defensive versatility with six blocks in a loss at Southwest on May 23.
These two teams met once earlier this season, with Cockburn earning a 97-85 home win over Lakeside on April 17. The Cougars’ high-powered offense has been a key to their success, averaging 89.5 points per game over their last four outings.
Cockburn’s only loss in its past five games came against Joondalup City on May 29, an 85-80 decision. The Cougars have been particularly strong at home, where they have won six of their seven games this season.
Lakeside has struggled on the road, posting a 2-4 record away from home. The Lightning will need improved production from their supporting cast, as Roscoe and Esmeralda Morales (21 points, two rebounds, three assists against Perth) have carried much of the scoring load.
Following Friday’s game, Cockburn travels to face Willetton on June 20. Lakeside returns home to host Willetton on June 26.
