Rockingham vs. Cockburn

HAMILTON HILL, Australia (Interstat) — The two top teams in the Australia NBL women’s division meet Friday when the Rockingham Flames visit the Cockburn Cougars at Hamilton Hill.

Rockingham, 11-2, and Cockburn, 12-3, sit atop the standings. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. local time.

Forwards Lesila Finau and Danielle Raber are the focal points for their respective clubs. Finau enters averaging 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds over her last four games, a stretch that includes a 15-point, nine-rebound effort against Lakeside on May 30. She also recorded 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in Rockingham’s 79-67 win over East Perth on June 6.

Raber, the Cougars’ top threat, produced 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in Cockburn’s 87-77 victory at Goldfields on June 6. She followed a 13-point, seven-assist performance against East Perth on May 15 and an 18-point, eight-rebound outing against Perry Lakes on May 23. She had one down game — seven points and five rebounds in a May 29 loss to Joondalup City — but has otherwise been consistent.

Rockingham enters Friday’s game on an eight-game winning streak after a 108-74 thrashing of Goldfields on May 17 and a 99-76 rout of Warwick on May 23. The Flames’ only losses came against Mandurah on April 24 and Willetton on May 16. Guard Stefanie Berberabe and forward Teige Morrell have been steady complements in Rockingham’s backcourt.

Cockburn, meanwhile, has alternated wins and losses over its last four contests. The Cougars fell to Joondalup City 85-80 on May 29 but bounced back to beat Perry Lakes 97-85 on May 23. They also suffered a 97-76 loss at Warwick on May 16 before defeating East Perth 91-81 on May 15. Guard Jewel Williams posted 14 points and 11 assists against Goldfields, and forward Cierra Walker added 18 points.

Friday’s game kicks off a heavy stretch for both teams. Rockingham travels to East Perth on June 20 before a home date against Southwest on June 26. Cockburn hosts Lakeside on June 19 and then visits Willetton on June 20.

This matchup marks the first meeting between the teams this season. With playoff positioning on the line, a strong showing from Finau or Raber could be the deciding factor.
