Canb. Nationals vs. Illawarra
WOLLONGONG, Australia (Interstat) — The Canberra Nationals (4-9) visit the Illawarra Hawks (5-6) in a women’s National Basketball League matchup Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Wollongong. Both teams are seeking momentum after mixed recent results.
Canberra enters on a two-game losing streak. The Nationals fell 80-79 to Centre of Excellence on June 5, despite a 22-point, 10-rebound, four-assist performance from guard Callie Bourne. The night before, Canberra lost 93-71 at Centre of Excellence. Bourne has been a consistent presence, recording double-doubles in five of her last six appearances. In a 109-81 win at Hornsby on May 31, she logged 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. For the season, Bourne leads the Nationals in scoring and rebounding.
Illawarra (5-6) snapped a two-game slide with a 70-66 win at Albury Wodonga on May 30. Center Darcy Rees posted 19 points, 14 rebounds, one assist and five blocks in that victory. Rees has posted three consecutive double-doubles, including 16 points and 15 rebounds in a 76-64 loss at Newcastle on May 23. Her inside presence will be critical against a Canberra team that allows an average of 83 points per game.
In the teams’ most recent meeting on April 11, Canberra won 69-43 at home. The Nationals forced 18 turnovers and held Illawarra to 30% shooting. Rees was limited to eight points for Illawarra in that game.
Canberra’s recent struggles include losses to Bankstown (95-53 on May 16) and Hills (91-78 on May 10). The Nationals have split their last six games, with wins coming against lower-tier opponents. Illawarra has lost five of its last seven, including a 96-77 defeat to Centre of Excellence on May 2 and an 88-40 loss to Northern Suburbs on April 26.
Key support for Canberra is expected from guard Caitlyn Jones, who had 14 points and eight assists in the June 5 loss, and forward Allison Day, who added 16 points and six rebounds. For Illawarra, guard Una Jovanovic scored 22 points in the May 30 win, and forward Ruby MacDonald contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Both teams are outside playoff contention, but a win could provide a springboard. Canberra has five games remaining before July, while Illawarra faces a busy stretch starting June 20 against Manly Warringah.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
