Preview: North Gold Coast at Brisbane in NBL Women’s Clash

BRISBANE, Australia (Interstat) — Two teams seeking their first win of the young NBL Women’s season will meet Friday when the Brisbane Capitals host the North Gold Coast Seahawks.

Both sides enter the contest at 0-1 after suffering decisive opening-night defeats on April 18. North Gold Coast fell 86-69 to the S.C. Phoenix at home, while Brisbane was routed 105-61 on the road against Southern Districts.

The matchup features a compelling contrast in early-season standouts. North Gold Coast will lean heavily on guard Georgia Woolley, who opened her campaign with a dominant 29-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist performance in the loss. Her all-around efficiency will be critical for the Seahawks’ offense.

Brisbane counters with forward Emilee Tahata, who anchored the interior with a formidable 17-rebound effort to go with 9 points in her team’s loss. Her battle on the glass against Woolley and Seahawks’ contributors like Jessica Boundy (10 points, 6 rebounds) will be a key factor.

For Brisbane, generating consistent offense is the immediate concern after their 44-point defeat. Beyond Tahata, production from Ashley Harris Arlen and Rihanna Byrne will be needed to support the rebounding prowess.

The game represents a quick turnaround for both clubs. Brisbane faces a road game at Logan on Saturday, while North Gold Coast’s next contest isn’t until May 2, making a victory Friday crucial for early momentum.

Tip-off is scheduled for Friday, April 24, at Brisbane’s home venue in Brisbane, Australia.
