Hobart vs. Ballarat
WENDOUREE, Australia (Interstat) — The Ballarat Rush will host the Hobart Chargers in a women’s professional basketball game Sunday at Wendouree, with the home team seeking to extend its winning ways against a visiting side desperate to halt a losing streak.
Ballarat enters the matchup with a 7-4 record across all competitions, while Hobart sits at 4-8. The game tips off at 7 p.m. local time.
The Rush are coming off a dominant 107-72 victory Saturday at Ringwood, where guard Malia Fisher posted 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 29 minutes. Fisher has been a consistent force for Ballarat, also recording double-doubles in recent wins over Kilsyth (16 points, 10 rebounds on May 2) and Frankston (10 points, nine rebounds on April 26). The 7-4 Rush have won four of their last five games.
Hobart, meanwhile, is seeking to rebound from a 102-77 loss Saturday at Eltham. Forward Tyia Singleton led the Chargers in that game with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Singleton has been the focal point of Hobart’s offense, posting three double-doubles in her last four games, including a 19-point, 17-rebound effort in a 70-81 loss to Diamond Valley on May 16. The Chargers have lost three of their last four contests.
Sunday’s game marks the first matchup between the two sides this season. Ballarat has been strong at home, while Hobart has struggled on the road, going 1-4 in away games this season. The Chargers’ lone road win came May 8 at Mount Gambier, 82-78.
Ballarat also will rely on guards Abigail Wehrung and Casey Samuels, who combined for 42 points in Saturday’s win. For Hobart, guard Sharna Thompson matched Singleton’s 24 points against Eltham.
Following Sunday’s game, Ballarat hosts Geelong on May 30, while Hobart visits Northern Force on the same day.
